Louvres Systems

Operable Louvres

The standard louvre system offers a range of high performance extruded aluminium louvres with comprehensive framing systems to suit all applications including glazing, curtain walling, integrated facades and architectural cladding systems. The system is available in 60, 80 and 100mm pitches and may be supplied in interlocking, continuous or modular formats with pre-assembled mullions and metal clips.

Configuration

The standard louvre system can be supplied in a modular format i.e. factory assembled in frames, or “site built” continuous. Irrespective of format each opening will comprise a variety of the following items.

Front Louvre blades -
There are three commonly used profile blades which can be identifi ed by their vertical spacing - 60, 80 and 100mm. The blades are supplied to site in long lengths, typically of around 6m. The blades join on metal clips with a small gap for thermal expansion and structural movement. The effect is of a continuous appearance with hidden mullions and no visible fixings.

The performance of the standard and Smoothflow louvre has been proven by laboratory and site testing and also verified by the use of the latest computer modelling techniques.

Second and third pass louvre blades
- Each of the front louvre blades has a corresponding set of rear blades which are, typically, up to 1.25m long. These blades provide additional high levels of weathering. They are either supplied as factory assembled modules or loose for site assembly.

Mullions - The mullion system is designed for a complete knockdown louvre system. There are 2 basic mullions - standard and extra. The mullion type is selected according to wind load requirements. The louvre blade mounting clips are factory fitted to the mullions.

Infill - A comprehensive range of infill media options is available to fi t between the mullions:
Bird guard - mill finish or coated aluminium mesh
Insect mesh - woven aluminium, stainless steel or nylon mesh

Blanking panels

Uninsulated: 1.5mm alloy sheet, mill finish or coated
Insulated: 1.5mm outer sheet, 1.0mm inner, mill finish or coated, infill to thermal or acoustic specification

Perimeter frames - Extruded or folded to suit each application usually from 1.5mm aluminium, colour coated as required. Supplied up to 6m as a continuous single length.

Fixing cleats - Each louvre system is supplied with 3mm mill finish aluminium fi xing cleats, complete with fixings to connect to the mullions.

Miscellaneous fixings, sealants - All mechanical fi xings required to assemble the louvres are automatically included.

Maintenance - The standard louvre system is designed to require minimal maintenance. However, it is necessary that the blades be regularly cleaned and inspected for damage.
